CELEBRATE ST PATRICK'S DAY: Traditional Irish Recipes with Sorcha Hyland

Ingredients

  • 1 Lemon
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 2 shots Irish Whiskey
  • 8 ozs boiling water
  • 1 heaping tbl brown sugar, or to taste
  • 1 cinnamon stick (optional)

Instructions

For 1 serving: Scrub the rind of the lemon to remove all wax. Cut it in half and slice one thick wheel of lemon from the center. Remove the seeds. Pierce the white pith (not the rind) with the six cloves and set aside. (This prevents bits of clove from floating around in your drink.) Pour the whiskey into a whiskey sour glass, or other short, heat-proof glass. Add the boiling water and brown sugar and stir. Add the lemon wheel, clove side up. Serve immediately. Serves 1.

Option: For stirring, and additional flavor, add a cinnamon stick.

Sorcha's whiskey recommendation: Bushmills Irish Whiskey.
